On Sunday, 22nd January 2012, the Christian community in Birstall joined the women of the Cameroon Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) at the Birstall Methodist Church at a gala to celebrate the golden jubilee of the CWF Movement.

The CWF movement started in 1961 with the early female missionaries from the Basel Mission with a handful of women.  Today, it is the fastest growing women faith group in the country in the last twenty years. The number of groups today stands at 1,043 with over 50,000members including the UK Overseas group which started in 2008. The motto is ‘Serve the Lord with Joy’ (Psalm 100:2) and the vision is to improve the status of women spiritually, socially and economically thus empowering women to face the 

challenges of life in all domains.

The CWF Gala service started with a procession led by the CWF. The sermon led by Reverend Rachel Parkinson focussed on the theme ‘Setting Our Feet on Higher Ground’, which is the theme for the CWF Golden Jubilee.  Activities of the day included presentation on the development of the CWF movement, singing of choruses, bible quiz, lunch and freewill donation.
