Messy Church celebrates Pentecost

Pentecost is the church festival in which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the followers of Jesus.  When the Holy Spirit came, the church was born, so in many ways it is the church's birthday.  That gave Messy plenty of opportunity to celebrate with individual birthday cakes and cards.  The Spirit came like wind and flame so they were two other craft themes.  We made wind chimes and kites; a flame and dove collage, decorated by blow painting with straws; we played "air racing" by blowing a ball along a racetrack and - very excitingly - we made paint fireworks by adding alka seltzer tablets to little paint pots.  Our celebration in church included lots of colour and movement to represent the energy of the original event.
