Carey Hall - Celebration and Future
On 18th September friends at Carey Hall Baptist Church celebrated the 113 anniversary of the founding of the Church.
Old friends meet up .................

To look at the old phographs ...........................

And to celebrate the past & the future ...........................................

The Future ........................
Four or five years ago, the leaders of the church, which had not had a Minister since 2001 and no prospect of calling one, began to consider the consequences of an ageing and diminishing congregation. Several options were considered and discounted including merger with other Baptist churches, but it was clear that the Church members were determined, having already experienced the closure and sale of the previous church buildings in Catherine Street, now used as a Hindu Temple, that the premises in Harrison Road should continue to be used as a place of Christian worship.
Since 2002 a Tamil speaking, baptizing congregation, Zion Word Church, who share our Christian beliefs, has been using our premises for a Sunday afternoon service, and with increasing regularity during the week, and it seemed to us after prayerful consideration, that God had provided the answer to the future of Carey Hall. The leaders of Zion Word were approached, and declared themselves to be very interested in becoming a Baptist church and advice was sought from our holding trustees. It was decided that the best way forward would be for a number of the leaders of Zion Word to be invited into membership of Carey Hall, learn the principles of the democracy and the practical management of a Baptist church, and subsequently offer themselves for election to leadership positions, become the new managing trustees and the new expression of the Baptist church in Belgrave.
The name of Carey Hall Baptist Church would be retained, as well as Carey’s constitution, and affiliation to the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the East Midlands Baptist Association. The recent Service of Celebration marked the beginning of the detailed process leading up to the handover which, at present, is planned for the middle of 2011.Those of the original Carey Hall membership /congregation still in the church at the time of handover will relocate to churches of their own choice.
